Supporting our local communities, is at the heart of our brand; with a vision to always create positive social impact. The initiatives range from fundraising and volunteering, to support for local wellbeing and engaging with young people and other groups.

Consistently delivering positive social value across Europe

In each of our European locations, Portakabin delivers positive social value by:

  • Employing locally and working with local supply chains on projects.
  • Engaging and inspiring young people.
  • Donating time through our employee-supported volunteering programme.
  • Supporting charities and acting considerately in our communities.
  1. Mentoring Programme

Portakabin works in partnership with York High School, on an annual basis, to mentor 20 students in Year 10. Over an 18 month period, 20 mentors from across the Portakabin business help to raise the students’ aspirations, develop their communications skills, recognise their abilities and provide direction and focus. Opportunities are also available for work experience, CV and interview workshops and careers events.

  2. Charitable donations

Employees involved in charity events, for example running a marathon, can apply for donations of up to £150 for the charity. Larger donations, up to £2,500, are available every six months for sponsorships of sports and activity clubs via a blind draw process.

  3. Charity Partners

Portakabin is delighted to support its charity partners. Making a significant difference is something that we’re able to do by offering longer term support to a charity. That’s why we’re delighted to have partnered with two charitable organisations which will benefit from ongoing initiatives.

York Cares is an independent employee-volunteering charity, which brings businesses, employees and communities together to make York a better place. Portakabin has been a member of York Cares since 2014 and employees continue to volunteer in a variety of programs.

    Other charities

We support many other local charities including The Prince’s Trust, Yorkshire Air Ambulance, York Rotary Club and Martin House as well as getting involved with national campaigns such as British Legion, Macmillan Cancer Trust and Red Nose Day.

  4. Volunteering days

Each Portakabin employee is entitled to spend a day each year working for a charity or organisation of their choice. The activities they undertake could be running an activity at a care home, clearing a school garden, or painting a youth club.
