  1. Requirement

On Friday 1 September, three days before pupils returned to Ellesmere Port Catholic High School for the start of a new term, the school was ordered to shut due to the discovery of dangerous Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete or RAAC in parts of their main school building.

Determined to keep their students in face-to face education, the school looked to relocate resources and rooms to meet the needs of the students so it would be able to open as planned on Tuesday 5 September but needed a quick, emergency solution for several departments to protect student learning.

  2. Solution

A framework agreement from the Department for Education meant the school was able to engage Portakabin immediately to deliver emergency classrooms which from installation to handover took only three weeks. A dedicated task and finish group was established between the Portakabin team and the school to keep all deliverables on track and bring the project to fruition within the required timeframe.

Portakabin were intrinsic in supporting the school throughout the mitigations for modular buildings during the RAAC crisis. They were professional at all times and delivered the project at speed as they understood the need in School. We would highly recommend Portakabin to anyone.
