The Kelpies are the world’s largest equine sculpture, located at The Helix ecopark on the Forth and Clyde Canal at Falkirk. The attraction opened in 2014 and visitor numbers quickly exceeded expectations.
With a new visitor centre still under construction Scottish Canals urgently needed to provide extra toilets for visitors, but for such a prestigious site the quality of the facilities had to be first rate.
Having looked at competitors’ temporary toilets and been disappointed by the quality, Scottish Canals approached Portakabin. A Portakabin representative visited the next day to assess the site and confirm that the deadline could be met.
The space available for the toilets was in a prominent location next to the visitor centre. Portakabin offered two of its premium-quality toilet units, which provide permanent-standard amenities fitted out with full flushing-toilets and domestic-standard sanitary ware.
Scottish Canals place a great deal of importance on correct, safe procedures and the level of detail that Portakabin provided helped the process run smoothly. Portakabin promptly provided all the information on health and safety practices, building specifications, power requirements and other details in order for the project to be approved quickly.
A carefully planned delivery was essential, since the site would be open to the public during installation. Scottish Canals cordoned off the area and Portakabin safely craned the fully fitted buildings into place. Installation went to plan and, at the end of the hire period, the buildings were uplifted on schedule.
We wanted high-quality facilities for this nationally important attraction, and only Portakabin could deliver the required standard within our timeframe. Everyone commented on how good they were.
