  1. Requirement

Portakabin was appointed as design and build contractor by University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust to construct a two-storey endoscopy unit. The Trust required a solution to their current offering and projected demand that suggested a significant shortfall in capacity over the next five years. Rugby was selected as a viable location for expansion. Part of a Ā£34 million package by the NHS nationally to speed up diagnosis, the new unit will treat up to 50 patients a day and provide better access to vital diagnostic procedures.

  2. Solution

The Portakabin team responded to the requirements with HTM and HBN compliance and a rapid delivery programme. The modern and spacious facility has additional facilities including three fully equipped procedure rooms, private discharge rooms, separate male and female waiting areas and a large reception area. It also has a floor dedicated to staff with a new fit-for-purpose rest area, office space and changing rooms.

Portakabin collaborated with specialist suppliers to procure and install medical equipment which would provide better access to vital diagnostic procedures for patients. The building was located within a busy hospital environment and Portakabin successfully delivered without interruption to service.

This project demonstrated our commitment to investing in the Hospital of St Cross and we were delighted to work with Portakabin on bringing the plans to fruition. Easier access to a range of diagnostic services gives patients the best possible chance of earlier diagnosis and successful treatment. We are very proud of the new Endoscopy Unit and our staff are enjoying working in spacious, modern facilities.
