The Requirement
Norfolk County Council identified the need for an additional new special educational needs school at Easton near Norwich as part of its £120 million five-year transformation programme, which pledged to create at least 500 new specialist education places. The Department for Education provided construction and Norfolk City Council the required services and access.
The building needed to provide 170 places for children with learning and cognition needs aged from 4 to 19 years, as well as specific configurations such as medical treatment rooms and sensory rooms.
The Bridge Easton School was the first project to be awarded to Portakabin on the Department of Education’s MMC1 framework. It was funded by the Department for Education following a successful bid to the Government’s free school programme by the county council.
