  1. Building on a relationship spanning over almost 60 years, York Minster approached Portakabin with the certainty that a solution aligning with their sustainability goals and understanding of preservation of the landmark would be achieved.

York Minster worked with the Portakabin team to design buildings that would not only serve their need, but also maintain the historic aesthetic of the grounds and the city itself.

  2. Installed in the Minster precinct, the buildings provided office and welfare facilities during the decant of Stoneyard to create the Technology & Works Hub, one of two new facilities of the Centre of Excellence. The Centre of Excellence is the pioneer project in the York Minster Neighbourhood Plan which sets out to maintain and improve the cultural and environmental importance of the Minster and its surrounding grounds.

The historic nature of the site prevented any foundations being installed, so an alternative method of steel plates and Jackpads was adopted to ensure preservation of the ground beneath.

The arrival of the Portakabin buildings is an exciting milestone in the delivery of the Centre of Excellence and forms part of the enabling works ahead of construction starting in the Spring. We’re delighted to be working with Portakabin to further enhance and preserve this incredibly significant monument for so many across the world and are very grateful to them for their support with this project
