  • Best Temporary Building Project Construction - Admiralty Arch
  • Project of the Year for Education (Early Years and Primary) - Northumberland County Council schools project
  • Project of the Year for Education (Secondary and Higher) - Dairy Nexus Facility at SRUC and St Oscar Romero Catholic School

Thank you to everyone who has been involved with these projects, we're looking forward to celebrating MMC at the awards ceremony in May.

  1. Best Temporary Building Project - Public Sector (Education/Healthcare)

Portkabin submitted two brilliant projects for this award.

The first entry highlights the project we worked on alongside the Department for Education to support schools during the RAAC crisis that forced closures at the end of 2023. With in-person education at risk, we were able to quickly deliver education facilities to Myton School, Scalby School, and Ellesmere Port Catholic School to support students and ensure that learning never stopped for them.

The second entry highlighted the rapid response Portakabin was able to provide to the DfE. Several education buildings were forced to close, so we were approached to provide facilities for Haygrove School, Sir Frederick Gibberd College, and Buckton Fields Primary School.

  1. Best Temporary Building Project - Construction

For the Best Temporary Building Project - Construction Portakabin submitted its brilliant Admiralty Arch project in London.

With London’s first Waldorf Astoria property set to open in the iconic Admiralty Arch later in 2025, specialist construction company Knight Build required high-quality site accommodation for the restoration. In February 2024, Portakabin installed 56 fire-rated site accommodation modules, which will be in place for two years at this iconic location.

  1. Project of the Year for Education (Early Years and Primary)

For this award, Portakabin sumbitted an entry highlighting a collection of projects undertaken in collaboration with Northumberland County Council.

Northumberland County Council required a modern, adaptable, and sustainable solution to expand its educational infrastructure as part of the Coquet Partnership expansion project. The goal was to create safe, inclusive, and energy-efficient spaces to accommodate a growing student population while supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities.

By utilising modular construction, the project reduced waste, minimised disruption, and enhanced energy efficiency. Portakabin initially worked with Northumberland County Council in 2023 to deliver five schools and were approached again in 2024 to deliver four more due to the great relationship developed from the first phase of installs.

  1. Project of the Year for Education (Secondary and Higher)

Two entries were submitted for this catergory, the Dairy Nexus Project at SRUC and St Oscar Romero Catholic School.

The first entry was the the Dairy Nexus Project at Scotland’s Rural University College (SRUC) Barony campus, which is a landmark in sustainable construction. This cutting-edge research facility is dedicated to sustainable dairy practices, tackling everything from optimising dairy nutrition to exploring genetic solutions to reduce cows’ methane emissions.

The second entry was a sixth form block that was installed and delivered at St Oscar Romero Catholic School in West Sussex, which welcomed its first-ever intake of sixth form students in September 2024. With tight deadlines and the need to avoid disrupting ongoing school activities, the school approached Portakabin for a high-quality, tailored modular solution.

  1. Project of the Year for Education (SEND/CAMHS/Mental Health)

To highlight some of the amazing work our teams have done to support SEND facilities, two projects were submitted for this category.

The first was a state-of-the-art secondary department for Discovery Special Academy, for which Portakabin provided a permanent home for 70 students with special educational needs and disabilities in Middlesbrough. Commissioned by Tees Valley Education, this bespoke facility was designed to seamlessly integrate with the existing primary and nursery provision, creating a unified through-school environment.

The second was Co-op Academy Brierley, a state-of-the-art SEND school in Leeds, where 70 precision-engineered modules were installed over the course of just 19 days to provide a reception, primary and secondary provision for SEND children aged 4-16. The project, commissioned by the DfE and Leeds City Council, showcases the power of MMC in creating high-quality, sustainable, and adaptable learning environments.
